The School Choice Index Editorial Team

Published · Last reviewed

Every piece on The School Choice Index is published under a shared byline: “The School Choice Index Editorial Team.” This is a deliberate choice. The value of an editorial reference is its institutional consistency — readers should be able to trust a state page regardless of which editor on the team drafted it.

Why a shared byline

Most readers come to a reference site to answer a question, not to read a particular reporter. A shared byline keeps the focus on the reporting, on the methodology, and on the underlying source material rather than on individual personality. It also signals that every page passes through the same multi-editor review process described in our Editorial Review Process.

Who we are

The team is composed of editors with backgrounds in education-policy research, K–12 administration, and policy journalism. The team operates as a small, generalist desk: every editor takes the lead on a rotating set of states and topic areas, and every page is reviewed by at least one editor other than the drafting editor before publication.

We do not publish individual editor names because we believe the shared byline more accurately represents how the work is produced. Editors disclose conflicts of interest internally and recuse from coverage where appropriate; see Editorial Standards for the full policy.

Our shared standards

We share four commitments: non-partisanship in framing and tone, primary-source citation for every numeric claim, plain-English writing aimed at parents and school leaders rather than policy insiders, and openness in correcting errors. These are the standards by which any individual page should be evaluated.
