The School Choice Index Editorial Team
Published · Last reviewed
Every piece on The School Choice Index is published under a shared byline: “The School Choice Index Editorial Team.” This is a deliberate choice. The value of an editorial reference is its institutional consistency — readers should be able to trust a state page regardless of which editor on the team drafted it.
Why a shared byline
Most readers come to a reference site to answer a question, not to read a particular reporter. A shared byline keeps the focus on the reporting, on the methodology, and on the underlying source material rather than on individual personality. It also signals that every page passes through the same multi-editor review process described in our Editorial Review Process.
Who we are
The School Choice Index is maintained by a small editorial desk that researches state school-choice programs using official statutes, administrative rules, agency guidance, application portals, parent handbooks, and program materials. We currently publish under an institutional byline and do not present individual editors as named experts. Readers should evaluate our work through our linked primary sources, methodology, last-verified dates, corrections process, and commercial disclosures rather than through personal credential claims.
Individual contributors, outside reviewers, or advisors are named on a page when they materially contribute to that page and consent to being identified. When a page is reviewed only through our in-house process, we do not imply outside expert endorsement. Editors disclose conflicts of interest internally and recuse from coverage where appropriate; see Editorial Standards for the full policy.
Our shared standards
We share four commitments: non-partisanship in framing and tone, primary-source citation for every numeric claim, plain-English writing aimed at parents and school leaders rather than policy insiders, and openness in correcting errors. These are the standards by which any individual page should be evaluated.
