Arkansas EFA · Provider Verification
Arkansas EFA approved providers: the official list, eligibility rules, and how to verify
Because Arkansas EFA is a reimbursement program— you pay first, then get reimbursed — verifying a provider’s eligibility beforepaying is critical. A denied reimbursement means you are out of pocket for an expense that EFA won’t cover. Here is how to verify the right way.
The key difference from other ESA states: you pay first
Unlike Arizona (which uses ClassWallet Direct Pay or Marketplace) or Florida (which uses EMA), Arkansas EFA uses a reimbursement model:
- You pay the provider out of pocket
- You keep the receipt
- You submit reimbursement documentation to ADE
- ADE reviews the request and reimburses eligible expenses
The provider does not receive direct payment from ADE. This means if you pay a provider who turns out not to be eligible, you may not get reimbursed — and the expense comes out of your pocket.
Verify before you pay. Not after.
Where to find the official Arkansas EFA approved provider list
The official source is the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) EFA program page. ADE maintains the current list of eligible provider types and, for some categories, a specific approved provider registry. Check the ADE EFA page for:
- Eligible expense categories and provider types
- Credential requirements by provider type
- Any approved vendor or school registry for specific categories
Provider eligibility by type
| Provider type | Credential requirement | How to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Private/nonpublic school | Must be ADE-approved nonpublic school | Check ADE nonpublic school registry |
| Tutor | ADE credential rules by education level/certification | Confirm with ADE EFA guidance for current year |
| Curriculum vendor | Materials must fit eligible expense categories | Review ADE eligible expense list |
| Therapist (speech, OT, PT, etc.) | Must hold current Arkansas professional license | Check state licensing board + ADE EFA approval |
| Online course provider | Must meet ADE educational technology/course rules | Confirm with ADE before purchasing |
How to verify a provider before paying
- Check the ADE EFA page for the current eligible expense categories and provider types.
- Confirm the provider type matches an eligible category.
- Check credential requirements for that provider type in ADE’s current guidance.
- Ask the provider directly about their credentials and whether they have worked with Arkansas EFA families before.
- For private schools: confirm ADE nonpublic school approval status before paying tuition.
- For therapists: verify their current Arkansas professional license.
- Keep documentation of the provider’s credentials for your reimbursement file.
What to include in your reimbursement documentation
For each provider payment you plan to reimburse through EFA:
- Original receipt or invoice from the provider
- Provider name, address, and credentials (if applicable)
- Date(s) of service or purchase
- Amount paid
- Description of service or materials purchased
- Your child’s name and EFA account information
Submit within ADE’s required reimbursement timeframe. Keep copies of everything you submit.
