Georgia Promise approved providers: how to find, verify, and use the list correctly
Georgia’s Promise Scholarship requires families to use approved providers and vendors for qualifying expenses. The official provider list and marketplace are the only reliable sources for current approval status — not community groups, blogs, or word-of-mouth recommendations.
Why “approved” matters for Georgia Promise
A Georgia Promise approved provider is one that has met the program’s requirements and is listed on the official provider list or marketplace for the current program year. Using a non-approved provider — even a reputable one — may result in a disallowed expense. The label “approved” is not permanent; providers may be added or removed each year.
Provider types in Georgia Promise
| Provider type | Examples | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Private schools | Participating private schools accepting Promise students | Current-year participation, enrollment availability, tuition vs. scholarship amount |
| Education service providers | Tutors, academic specialists, educational coaches | Approved status for current year, service type matches eligible expense category |
| Curriculum and materials vendors | Online curriculum programs, book vendors, instructional material suppliers | Approved marketplace listing, item fits qualifying curriculum or supplemental materials definition |
| Transportation providers | Providers of qualifying transportation to and from school | Approved status; $500 per-year cap applies |
The $500 transportation cap: what it means
Georgia Promise allows transportation as an eligible expense up to $500 per year. Transportation here refers to transportation to and from a participating school or educational service, not general family transportation. Costs above $500 annually are not covered. Families relying on transportation as part of their Promise spending plan should:
- Confirm the transportation provider is approved
- Track spending carefully against the $500 cap
- Not assume that all transportation-related costs are included in the cap
How to find and verify a Georgia Promise provider
- Go to the Georgia Promise Scholarship page. Look for the provider list or marketplace — it may be a PDF, a searchable database, or both.
- Search by provider name, service type, or location. Confirm the provider appears on the current-year list.
- Check if there are any status notes or conditions. Some providers may be listed with restrictions or conditions on the types of services that qualify.
- Contact the provider directly. Confirm they are currently accepting Promise students, what their process is, and whether any copay applies.
- Verify the purchase fits eligible expense rules. Being an approved provider does not make every purchase automatically eligible. Each transaction must fit the program’s qualified expense categories.
